2009 Vacation

Quick note so I don't forget all that I did on this vacation. Will come back and add more another time.

Tuesday, June 9 - Travelled to Toronto Airport for flight to Newcastle

Wednesday, June 10 - Arrived in Newcastle - parents there to meet me ;o)

Thursday, June 11 - Thursby Lunch Club at Royal Oak.

Friday, June 12 - Wigton market and flower shop. Barry made fish pie for lunch.

Saturday, June 13 - Tried to go to Dalemain but it was closed. Went to Ulswater.

Sunday, June 14 - The Ratty and Muncaster Castle.

Monday, June 15 - Travelled to Newcastle Airport for flight to Paris. Arrived in Paris, took RER into city, found hotel, walked to Notre Dame in rain, had dinner (salad and red wine) at sidewalk cafe, walked a little around Latin Quarter, back to hotel, late dessert at cafe next door to hotel.

Tuesday, June 16 - Up at 7:30, shower and out by 8:00. Walked around near hotel for a while. Back to hotel for 9:00 to meet Teresa from French Chic group. Had coffee and croissant at cafe near Pompedeau Centre. Said goodbye to Teresa and walked and walked and walked, down rue Montegueil (sp), and eventually to Galleries Lafayette. Had lunch (salad) there and when I took my tray to find a table, there through the window was the Eifel Tower. more .....

Wednesday, June 17 - Notre Dame; day pass for Batobus; got off at Champs Elysee and walked to Place de la Concord and got on the bus loop to Monmatre. Went past Moulin Rouge, got off at Sacre Coeur. Got back on bus and got off at Louvre. Coffee and croissant with sparrows. Saw Mona Lisa and Venus de Milo. Batobus back to Notre Dame and back to restaurant beside hotel. Nice dinner and back to room at midnight.

Thursday, June 18 - Travelled to Charles DeGall Aiport to fly back to Newcastle

Friday, June 19 - Travelled down to Milton Keynes. Dinner with family. Stayed at Auntie Margaret and Uncle Tom's place. Parents stayed with Auntie Enid.

Saturday, June 20 - Went to Milton Keynes market. Afternoon and evening at Marg & Tom's.

Sunday, June 21 - Left MK and travelled to Warwick. Afternoon at Warwick Castle. Stayed in family room at B&B.

Monday, June 22 - Went to Black Country Museum, then to Anne Hathaways' Cottage in Stratford. Back to Warwick, dinner at Indian restaurant, back to B&B.

Tuesday, June 23 - Left Warwick and headed to Yorkshire. Parents stayed at car in the Designer Outlet car park and I took a Park and Ride bus to York. Walked along the Shambles and around York Minster. Had icecream and took bus back to Designer Outlet. Headed to Leyburn where we had trouble finding the B&B. Stayed the night in a wonderful old country house (built in 1854), filled with antiques.

Wednesday, June 24 - Thirsk, James Herriott Museum, Sutton Bank, Helmsley.

Thursday, June 25 - Headed back towards M6, stopping in Hawe at the Dalesman Country Museum, driving through Askrig where the fictional Skeldale House is located, but didn't see it. Arrived back at the house mid-afternoon and then went to pick up the dogs from the kennels. Vicki and Damien came for a visit.

Friday, June 26 - Roy came in the afternoon.

Saturday, June 27 - Spent the afternoon shopping in Carlisle.

Sunday, June 28 - Quiet day at home for Mum and I; Barry out sailing.

Monday, June 29 - Holker Hall

Tuesday, June 30 - Viewed house; lunch and Brantwood Arms; Dalemain; launch around Coniston(?)

Wednesday, July 1 - Return to Toronto. Hubby met me at airport with a red rose. Stopped at Mike and Nancy's on way home, stayed for dinner. Exhausted by the time I got home.

Thursday, July 2 - Back to work and reality.

Best vacation ever!!!
